If you just want to go up and down Queen
Street it is cheaper to hop on a regular (not a Link)
bus, as this will cost you 50c, rather than $1.20. There
is a free City Circle Bus that runs
around the city centre every 10 minutes linking Viaduct
Harbour, Sky City and Auckland University, which is
a great way to get around.
Travel is also accomplished
by using the ferry services which departs from the wharf
behind the Ferry Building on Quay Street in downtown
Auckland. Fullers Ferries (tel (09) 367 9111; to Devonport
and Waiheke Island. The Ferry Journey to Devonport
is a popular day trip and costs $5 each way or $8 return.
There are various passes a visitor can
get. A Shopperpass is good for unlimited
travel on Stagecoach Auckland buses (including the Link
bus) between 9am and 3pm on weekdays. It costs $5 and
is not valid on public holidays. The Aucklandpass
is good for one day unlimited travel on Stagecoach Auckland
buses and it also includes travel on ferry services
to the North Shore. This pass costs $8. The passes are
a convenient way to get around Auckland. Of course there
are also numerous tours for those of you who prefer
the convenience. If you prefer you can hire a driver
to take you around the city too.
