 Auckland
City - Not only is Auckland close to the
beaches but it is also close to over twelve different
Islands. The Auckland lifestyle is ranked among the
best in the world. It is one of the best cities to
visit and one of the best to live in. In the Maori
language this is called the city of 100 lovers, Tamaki
Makau Rau, because it is said to be a place that is
desired by all and conquered by many. There are 48
volcanic cones and more than 50 islands in the Auckland
region and that is why 1.3 million people call this
area their home. It is the largest city in New Zealand
claiming one third of the entire population of the
country.
One of the best ways to appreciate the
City of Auckland is from out on the
water. Swimming you can see some but not nearly as much
as on a boat. Regular ferries service the islands of
the Hauraki Gulf or you can take a
charter boat or a classic yacht or a speed boat and
really appreciate the City of Sails from the water.
It is a big place for Windsurfing in the bays and kayaking
is a very popular pastime also. Whatever water sport
you like they do in Auckland.
 The
hiking trails in the Waitakere and Hunua Ranges
will take you into the cool, peaceful rainforest. The
Hauraki Gulf has lots of dolphins and whales, which
you can view on regular boat trips on the Dolphin Explorer.
At Kelly Tarlton’s Antarctic Encounter
and Underwater World you can see the sea life from glass
tunnels underwater. Aucklanders’ past times include
rugby in the winter and cricket in the summer. With
more than 30 golf courses and summer concerts at the
crater of an extinct volcano at the Auckland Domain
makes for interesting fun.
In this beautiful area there isn’t
a chance you could have less than the most enjoyable
trip you ever went on. What a town. What scenery and
